Hello, my name is Douglas Walker. Sometimes the tiny letters on our onscreen keyboard can be really hard to see. However, turning on Typing Feedback can make a huge difference. Because now when we type, all of our characters and words are read aloud to us, which is super helpful.
Now, we're using our iPad in today's workshop. However, all of this will work pretty much the same, whether we're using our iPad, our iPhone, or even our iPod Touch. Let's jump right in and check out how to turn on and use Typing Feedback. We will first need to turn on Typing Feedback before we can actually use it. And we'll turn it on from within our Settings app. Our Settings app is right here on our Home screen, so we'll just touch settings.
Great, our settings have opened and we have been given two lists. Now our Typing Feedback setting is within our Accessibility settings. So we will look for Accessibility here in our lift list. And there it is. We'll go ahead and just tap it.
Yeah, our Accessibility button is now highlighted, and we notice that all of our Accessibility settings have opened here in our right list. Now, we'll find our Typing Feedback settings within our Spoken Content settings. And Spoken Content is right here in our list. So we'll tap Spoken Content.
Cool, our Spoken Content settings have opened and Typing Feedback is right here in our right list. Yep. Just one more tab here. We'll tap Typing Feedback. Yeah, we made it.
Our Typing Feedback settings are all open here in our right list. Now, there are quite a few settings here, and for the sake of time, we're going to focus on two main settings today. But you're really going to want to come back here and kind of play around with all of these settings to see which one works best for you.
Now, our very first setting is Characters. And when Characters is turned on, each time we type a new character, we will hear it spoken aloud. And that is super cool.
Now, all the way to the right, we see that we have an on/off switch. So we'll simply tap it to turn on characters. Great. And let's turn on one more setting. And we have our Speak Words setting right here in our list. And you've probably already guessed that when Speak Words is turned on, any word that we've typed will be spoken aloud as well. And you gotta love that. All right. We'll just tap our on switch here to turn on Speak Words.
Okay, our two main Typing Feedback settings are now turned on. Now, Typing Feedback will work in any text area. So let's head over to our Notes app and check out how all of this works. We'll go ahead and just close our settings here. And there's our Notes app. So we'll just tap to open it.
All right, our Notes app has opened, and we've actually been placed right in a new note. So we're ready to try our Typing Feedback. All right. How about we type the sentence, "This is super fantastic." I know. Who would have thought it, right? Anyway, we'll go ahead and type.
VoiceOver: Cap T.
Douglas: Okay, we know that Speak Characters is working because we heard our letter T read aloud. So we'll go ahead and type the rest of the word to this.
VoiceOver: H-I-S
Douglas: Great. And here's the word "This." All right, we're about to hear our Speak Words feature in action, because as soon as we type our space, our word this will be read aloud. We'll just tap our space bar.
VoiceOver: This.
Douglas: And how cool is that? Now let's go ahead and type the rest of our sentence here. We'll type, "is super fantastic."
VoiceOver: I-S, is. S-U-P-E-R, super. F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C.
Douglas: Yeah. And there's our sentence. Before we add our punctuation, how about we check out a really cool tip here. Now, we haven't added our period yet, but if we tap our space bar two times quickly, a period will automatically be placed right at the end of our sentence. Now, that is really nice because we don't have to go hunting for that tiny period. So let's do it. We'll go ahead and tap our space bar two times quickly.
VoiceOver: Fantastic.
Douglas: And hey, there you go. Typing Feedback really is super fantastic. That pretty much covers how to turn on and use Typing Feedback.
I tell you, Typing Feedback has taken all of the guesswork out of typing. Because with our characters and words read aloud, now we know for sure that we've typed exactly what we meant to type. Again, my name is Douglas Walker. Take care, and I'll see you next time.
