Accessibility Features

- [Vikki] Hi, I'm Vikki Vaughn, and in today's workshop we'll explore the various accessibility features in our Amazon Fire TV Stick. We'll check out several of these features that make it easier to use our Fire Stick. Let's jump right in by turning on VoiceView, Amazon's screen reader. This feature reads aloud what's on our screen. There's a handy shortcut on our remote that turns VoiceView on and off. The back button is the far left button in the top row below the directional pad on our remote. While the menu button, is the far right button in the top row, all we have to do is press and hold the back button and the menu button together we hear a tone, Then VoiceView lets us know she's ready.

- [Vikki] The first time we use VoiceView, we have a tutorial that provides us with helpful tips when using this feature. We'll skip the tutorial for now, but be sure to check out another workshop in this series for a deep dive into VoiceView. Let's use our voice button to move to Settings. We'll press and hold the voice button and say, go to settings.

- [VoiceView] Settings, 13 of 13. Settings, Notifications, row one, column one.

- [Vikki] We've landed on the first item in our Settings menu, Notifications. Let's press right on our directional pad on our remote to move to the next column.

- [VoiceView] Profiles, Account & Profile Settings, row one, column three.

- [Vikki] Now let's press down twice to move to the third row.

- [VoiceView] Accessibility, row three, column three.

- [Vikki] We've landed on Accessibility. Let's press the Select button to open this page.

- [VoiceView] Accessibility, Closed Caption, 1 of 8.

- [Vikki] With each of the accessibility features, we press the Select button to turn the feature on and off. When we turn it on, we automatically move into a new list of options for that particular feature. When we're ready to move back to the main menu in Accessibility, we use the back button on our remote. It's located on the far left side of the top row below the directional pad. We'll skip over the first two options in our menu, Closed Caption, and Alexa Caption. If you'd like more information about these features, check out the resources below this workshop.

- [VoiceView] VoiceView 3 of 8.

- [VoiceView] Moving down our list, we land on VoiceView. This is the feature that is reading aloud what's on our screen. We select the VoiceView option when we need to manage its voice output settings, such as reading speed, and volume. - [Vikki] We'll skip the next feature in our list, Text Banner. You can find more information about Text Banner in the resources below this workshop.

- [VoiceView] Screen Magnifier Off, 5 of 8.

- [Vikki] Moving down our list, our next feature is Screen Magnifier. This feature enables us to use combinations of buttons on our remote to magnify our screen. We can use our screen magnifier for reading menus, notifications, and other text on our screen, let's give it a try. Let's press the Select button in the middle of our directional pad to turn on our screen magnifier.

- [VoiceView] On Screen Magnifier, when zoomed in the view area will follow the focused item.

- [Vikki] When we first turn on screen magnifier, everything is zoomed in and we're presented with a list of shortcut keys. Let's press right on our directional pad to move to the OK button.

- [VoiceView] OK button.

- [Vikki] Now let's press the Select button to choose the OK button

- [VoiceView] Accessibility, Screen Magnifier On 5 of 8.

- [Vikki] By pressing up and down, we move through our zoomed in list. For now, we'll turn off the magnifier with the key combination on our remote. - [VoiceView] High Contrast Text.

- [Vikki] Moving down our list, the next option is High Contrast Text. When it's turned on this feature changes most of the text on the screen to either black or white, and it adds a high contrast border.

- [VoiceView] Audio Description, 7 of 8.

- [Vikki] The final feature in our list of Accessibility options is Audio Description. This feature allows us to add an audio track, which contains a verbal description of images and actions to some shows. These shows include Amazon Prime Video content and Live TV.
