Reacting to Posts

Hi, my name is Vikki Vaughan. And today we'll dive into various ways we react to a friend's post on Facebook. We'll explore some of the tools that help make our reactions more fun.

Facebook gives us many different ways to react to a post. Let's say our friend Jessica posted a photo of a guide dog courtesy of Southeastern Guide Dogs. When we see a post on Facebook, we can comment on it or choose from a variety of icons to show our feelings. Let's explore these icons.

Below Jessica's post, we find several buttons to choose from. At the far left, we find the Like button. It displays a thumbs-up graphic. When we use our mouse pointer to hover over this button, seven different reaction icons pop up. From left to right, they include like, love, care, ha-ha, wow, sad, and angry. Since we all love a new guide dog, let's select the love icon. When we select one of these icons, it becomes visible to anyone who sees the post. It also lets Facebook know that we like these types of posts. Facebook then starts to send us more posts like the one we liked.

Facebook allows us to save a post, turn off notifications for this post, embed, or report a post. We do this by selecting the three dots in the top right corner of the post.

A dropdown menu appears and we can use our arrow keys or pointer to select our desired option. We close this menu by either selecting the dots again or pressing our Escape key. If we think a post doesn't follow Facebook's community standards, we can report it. For more information about reporting a post, check out the resource section below this workshop.

To the right of the Like button, we find the Comment button. We type our comment in the edit field below the buttons. Let's type, "He's a good boy." When we finished entering our text, we press the Enter key. Facebook also gives us other options for expressing our feelings about the post.

Moving to the right of the edit field, we use our pointer to select from: Comment with an avatar sticker, Insert an emoji, Attach a photo or video, Comment with a GIF, GIF is an animated graphic or short video, or Comment with a sticker.

We have one last way to react to a friend's post. Moving to the right of the Comment button, we find the Share button. When we select it, we're given various sharing options to choose from. They include Share now with friends, Share to our feed, Share to our story, friends, Send in Messenger, Share to a page, Share to a group, and Share on a friend's profile.
