iPhone/iPad VoiceOver: Email

Hello, my name is Douglas Walker. Today is all about composing and sending a new email. Now our mail app is already open and we are in our inbox, which is a list of all of our recently received emails. However, we do have them all cleaned out here for the sake of privacy. Okay, our compose button is right here in the bottom right hand corner of our screen. So let's jump right in and touch our compose button here to get started, and so we'll just touch compose.

VoiceOver: Compose button, double tap and hold to bring up drafts.

Douglas: Yep, and here we are on our compose button and we are given the hint that we can double tap and hold to bring up any of our drafts. And this is great, if we happen to have any unfinished or draft emails but today's all about composing a new email. So we will go ahead and just double tap to begin composing here, and we'll just double tap.

VoiceOver: To text field is editing, insertion point at start.

Douglas: Alright, a new blank email has opened and we have been placed right in a two field. Now, a two field is where we will enter our recipients email address. So how about we go ahead and type it in right here, and this is pretty sad but we will be sending this email to myself.

Now for the sake of privacy, we won't show me actually typing in our email and through the magical video, we will be right back. Great and we are back and our email address has been entered. Now, if we wanted to send this email to more than one person, we could type in another recipients email here however, we'll go ahead and just keep it simple today, and that we will just right swipe from here and we'll go ahead and just right swipe.

VoiceOver: Cc slash BCC from double tap to show more info.

Douglas: Now here is our cc field and we could just single finger double tap to add a carbon copy recipient here but this is just gonna be sent to one person today and that would be me I guess. So we will go ahead and we'll just continue to right swipe from here so we will just right swipe.

VoiceOver: [email protected].

Douglas: Now this the account that we're actually using to send this email from and activating this would give us the ability to move to another account if we like. That is if we happen to have more than one email account available for us and that is pretty cool but we will go ahead and just leave it as is and we will just right swipe from here.

VoiceOver: Subject text field, double to edit.

Douglas: Okay, here we are in our subject field and we do want to place a subject here. Now, this just needs to be a short blurb that will let our recipient know what this email is about. So how about we go ahead and just type email workshop here, but first VoiceOver announced that we need to double tap to enter this text field here. So what we'll go ahead and just double tap here.

VoiceOver: Insertion point at end.

Douglas: Okay, so let's go ahead and type in the subject, let's put email workshop here. So we'll just go ahead and type that in.

VoiceOver: Copy, M-A-I-L email, A-W-O-R-K-S-H-O-P.

Douglas: And there we have our subject line and we will need to actually go up here and touch back in our subject lines so that we can continue to right swipe through our email. So what we'll go ahead and just touch in our subject text field here, we'll just touch it here.

VoiceOver: Subject email workshop.

Douglas: And we heard our subject email workshop here has been added. So that's pretty great. So we'll go ahead and just right swipe from here.

VoiceOver: Notify me button.

Douglas: Now, this is really cool. Here we have our notify me button and double tapping our notify me button will give us the option of receiving a notification if a recipient happens to reply to this email. Yeah, so that can be a super handy feature for sure. Okay, so we're almost there, and we'll go ahead and just right swipe one more time here, and we'll get to our message body. So we'll go ahead and just right swipe,

VoiceOver: Message body, Douglas Walker, text field, double tap to edit.

Douglas: And here we are. Okay, voice over once again told us that we need to double tap to enter our email text field here. So, we'll go ahead and just double tap here.

VoiceOver: Insertion point at start.

Douglas: And here we are at the very top of our email text field here. So we are ready to type our email message. And how about we type, I don't know, let's just type something short like here you go. Okay, anyway, short but sweet, right? And we'll go ahead and just type here you go.

VoiceOver: Copy H-E-R-E here, T-G-T-Y-O-U you, G-O go.

Douglas: Okay, not the longest email ever but remember I am emailing myself, so what can we expect, right? Okay, so that just about does it and our email is ready to send. Okay to send it, we just need to find our Send button in the top right hand corner of our screen here. So we'll go ahead and just touch our Send button here.

VoiceOver: Send button.

Douglas: Yeah and of course here it is, and you guessed it, all we have to do to send it is to just double tap. So what we'll go ahead, just double tap here.

VoiceOver: Send. Mail now, Douglas.

Douglas: Great, our email was sent and we are right back in our email inbox list. Now we heard two sounds when we sent our email. The first sound, sounded kind of like a rocket taking off and that was our email being sent. The second sound was like to dings and the dings were to let us know that we have received a new email. Of course, that was the one that I just sent myself and it's good to know that our most recent email will show up at the very top of our inbox list. And, of course, we could just right swipe to find it right here in our inbox.

Okay, and that pretty much covers how to compose and send a new email. I tell you an email really is so fantastic and it's something that I use every single day to keep in touch with my family, my friends, and all of my work colleagues.
