iPhone/iPad VoiceOver: Voicemail

Hello my name is Douglas Walker. Today, we are going to check out some really great tips that will make checking voicemail so much easier. Now, we will find all of our voicemails in our phone app. Yeah our phone app is open and we just so happen to be in our voicemail tab. And our voicemail tab, of course, contains a list of all of our voicemails.

Now, we have some really great kind of hidden features here. So let's jump right in and check it all out. Okay, our voicemail focus is on our voicemail heading, here near the top of our screen. So, I guess we know we are in the right place. Okay, so when we right swipe, we will placed on the first voicemail here in our list, and our first voicemail will be the last voicemail that we received. So, let's go ahead and we'll right swipe to our voicemail list here. So we'll just right swipe.

Douglas: Okay, and here is our first voicemail, and VoiceOver gave us a lot of really great information. Now VoiceOver will announce unread if we haven't yet listened to our voicemail. However, this one's already been played so we are first given our callers name. That is if we've added them as a contact within our contacts app. Otherwise, the callers phone number will be listed here instead.

We're also told the day that we received the call. We're told the duration of our voicemail. We're told that our voicemail is collapsed. And that we can double tap to expand it. And last but not least, we are told that we have some actions available to us.

Like we said, we are given a lot of information and we could just continue to right swipe through the rest of our voicemails here, but let's go ahead and check out our last VoiceOver hint. Yeah we were told that we have actions, and we know that we can simply swipe up or down our screen to move or cycle through all of our actions. So, let's go ahead and quickly check out our actions here, and we'll just swipe down one time here.

VoiceOver: Delete.

Douglas: Yeah we heard VoiceOver announce delete and this is a super quick way for deleting our voicemails because if we just double tap our voicemail will be deleted from our list. Yeah and that is super useful. Okay let's just swipe down again and swipe down.

VoiceOver: More info.

Douglas: All right, and we heard more info and if we double tap now, we would be given the contact information for this caller. Now, if the number isn't already in our contacts, we'll also have the ability to add a number as a contact if we'd like, which is really great for us. Okay, so we'll go ahead and swipe down again.

VoiceOver: Share.

Douglas: Yeah, and here is our share action. Now, this is really cool because double tapping our share action will bring up our share sheet. And there we are given the ability to share our voicemail as a text message, an email, or even airdrop it to someone if we'd like. Okay, now when we swipe down again, we should be back on our default action here. So we'll just swipe down.

VoiceOver: Activate default.

Douglas: Yeah, VoiceOver announced activate, and that this is our default action. Remember, we were told earlier that our voicemail is currently collapsed, so if we double tap now, our voicemail will expand and we will be given all of our voicemails player controls.

Again, it's important to note that if this was an unplayed voicemail, it's gonna automatically begin to play as soon as we open it, so it's good to know that we're able to pause it by performing our two finger double tap. All right, so how about we go ahead and double tap to expand our voicemail controls here. We'll just double tap.

Douglas: Great, our voicemail controls have expanded, and we can just of course double tap here to collapse them again. However, we don't wanna do that because we will just right swipe from here to explore all of our player controls. So we'll go ahead and just right swipe.

VoiceOver: Voicemail position, zero seconds of ten seconds.

Douglas: All right, and here is our voicemail position. And again, we're told the length or duration of our voicemail so that's pretty cool, we'll just go ahead and right swipe from here though. We'll right swipe.

VoiceOver: Play voicemail button.

Douglas: Yeah and here is our play button and you guessed it, we can simply just double tap to play our voicemail. So let's go ahead and do it. We'll go ahead and just double tap here.

VoiceOver: Pause voicemail.

Voicemail: Yeah I'm just leaving this voicemail so that we can check out how to play and pause a voicemail.

VoiceOver: Play voicemail.

Douglas: And there you go. We double tapped again to pause our voicemail. Okay, we do have three more buttons here to check out, so we'll go ahead and just right swipe here.

VoiceOver: Playback destination button.

Douglas: All right, here is our playback destination button, and double tapping our playback destination button will toggle us between our external speaker and our ear piece speaker. Now, remember if we chose our external speaker, other's around us will be able to hear our voicemail. So for privacy, we might wanna keep that in mind. All right, so let's go ahead and just right swipe from here.

VoiceOver: Call button.

Douglas: Yeah here is our call button, and this is probably my favorite player control because if we double tap now, we would automatically call back the person that left us this voicemail. And I tell you, that is super convenient for us. Okay, we only have a couple more things here so we'll go ahead and just right swipe.

VoiceOver: Delete button.

Douglas: Great, here is our delete button. And this gives us another easy way to delete our voicemail here. Now, if we were to right swipe again, we would find a transcript of our voicemail, and this can be kind of hit and miss. And for the sake of time, we won't be checking out our transcript today, but it's kind of cool that we do have it here.

Okay so that pretty much covers all of our voicemail player controls. So, how about we quickly just left swipe back to our collapse button and we'll check out how to get back to our main voicemail list. So we'll go ahead and just quickly left swipe a few times here.

Douglas: And we'll just left swipe in here.

VoiceOver: Play voicemail button.

Douglas: There's our play button again.
