Hi, I'm Vikki Vaughan and today we'll learn how to forward an email in Microsoft Outlook. This workshop is intended for users for low vision. If you use a screen reading program, be sure to check out our screen reading version of this workshop. Emails often contain information that we wish to share with others whether it be a work memo or recipe or a funny joke. Microsoft Outlook provides several methods to accomplish this quickly and easily.
Let's jump into our inbox to learn how. At the top of our list, we see an email from my friend Ricky. She's asking for a recipe for French silk pie and it just so happens that my coworker Tanya makes a fantastic version of this dessert. Instead of writing Tanya to repeat Ricky's request, let's investigate an easier method. It's called forwarding an email. We can think of it as placing a letter from one person in an envelope and mailing it to another person. Outlook provides us with several methods to forward Ricky's email to Tanya.
In our first method, we use a handy tool in our ribbon to quickly forward an email to a person who hasn't previously been part of the conversation. Under the Respond group, we see a tool labeled Forward. It has a small blue arrow pointed to the right to signal that we're passing this email onto someone new. We use our mouse pointer to select this tool.
Okay, let's have a look at the other method to forward our email to Tanya. You may notice that when we hover over the forward tool with our mouse pointer, a rectangular box appears below it. Outlook provides us with a handy tip to remind us of keyboard shortcuts for various actions. With the forward tool, we see the keyboard shortcut of Control + F for forward. That's pretty easy to remember, isn't it?
Let's try out our keyboard shortcut of Control + F and here we are in a new email and our focus is in the address line. Let's type in Tanya's email address. We see in our subject line the original title of Ricky's email. In front of it we see the letters FW followed by a colon. This tells the person receiving this new email that it's been forwarded from someone else. Sometimes emails are forwarded multiple times. When this happens, we see FW: and FWD: several times. Both abbreviations mean forward and they tell us the email has been forwarded by several people before we received it.
Now if you're anything like me when receiving a forwarded email, you might be curious as to what the original email says. Outlook provides us all the information we need. When we scroll down through our new email, we see Ricky's original email below. So we're ready to forward Ricky's email to Tanya with a quick message and one final step, we use our mouse pointer to select the send button and our email is on its way. Congratulations, you've just forwarded an email.
Today we learned about forwarding an email in Microsoft Outlook. I'm Vikki Vaughan and I thank you for joining me. This is one in a series of workshops called Microsoft Outlook.
