When someone is guiding us, there will be times that walking side-by-side just doesn't work, like when going through a narrow or crowded hallway. Let's look at some tips for handling these situations.
When we approach a narrow space, it works best to walk directly behind the person guiding us. Our guide moves their guiding arm behind their back, and we step directly behind them. We slide our hand down to our guide's wrist and straighten our arm. This way, we won't step on their heels.
Once we're through the narrow space, our guide returns their arm to their side, we slide our hand back up above their elbow, and we go back to walking side-by-side. Contact a learning expert with any questions, or to learn more tips like this one.
