Guided Walking: Getting into a Car
Outings with family and friends may include someone helping us get into a car. With a few steps and a little practice, this can be done quite smoothly.
If the door is closed, ask the person guiding to locate the door handle. Hold on to their guide arm while they place their hand on the door handle, then we slide our hand down their arm to find the handle. Before opening the door, we put our other hand on the roof of the car. This tells us how much to duck our head as we get into the vehicle.
If the car door is open, our guide can help us find the top of the car by putting the hand of their guiding arm there. Then, we slide our hand along their arm to find it.
Before getting into the car, we swipe our hand across the seat to make sure it's clear, then turn our back side toward the seat, lower ourselves down, and bring our legs into the car.
