iPhone/iPad VoiceOver: Notes App

Hello, my name is Douglas Walker. Today we are going to be exploring our Notes app. Now this is an app that is built right into all of our Apple devices.

The Notes app is a really good, very simple word processor and it's a great app for taking notes in a meeting, for making a grocery list or just jotting down a quick reminder. Let's jump right in and check it all out. We already have our Notes app open, and we are in our notes list screen. Now, this is the screen that contains all of the notes that we have created. Yeah, we could simply just right swipe and double tap to open any of our notes here, which is great, but how about we check out how to create a new note. Our new note button is in the bottom right corner of our screen so we'll just touch our new note button here.

Douglas: Okay, and here it is. We will go ahead and just double tap to begin our new note and we'll double tap.

VoiceOver: New note, note, text field is editing. Character mode, insertion point at start.

Douglas: Yeah, and our new note is open and we have been placed right in our text field where we can begin typing. However, we do have a few tools here just above our on-screen keyboard that we're really going to want to explore so we will go ahead and just right swipe from here and check them all out. We'll just right swipe,

VoiceOver: Add table button. Double tap to add a table to the current note.

Douglas: Great and here is our Add table button. It's nice to know that we have been given some advanced features here that will allow us to add a table right to our note if we like. Okay, so we'll just right swipe here,

VoiceOver: Text styles button. Double tap to select a text style.

Douglas: And here is our text styles button. Now, double tapping our text styles button will give us the ability to choose between several types of styles such as a title, or a heading, or even a bulleted or numbered list. This is a really nice formatting feature and one that I actually use a lot. We will go ahead and just right swipe now,

VoiceOver: Checklist off button. Double tap to toggle a checklist style for the current selection.

Douglas: Yeah, and here we have our checklist button and we would select our checklist button if we wanna create a list with check boxes that can actually be checked off as they are completed, which to me is super cool for us. All right, so just a couple more tools here. we'll just right swipe,

VoiceOver: Camera button. Double tap to add a photo or scan a document into the current note.

Douglas: All right, here's our camera button and double tapping our camera button will allow us to scan a document and we can add it right to our note, we can also take a picture, or even add a photo to our note right from our photo library and that can be really handy for us. We have one more tool here so we'll just right swipe.

VoiceOver: Handwriting tools button. Double tap to show handwriting tools.

Douglas: Yeah, here we have our handwriting tools. These are our tools for creating or drawing a sketch that will be added to our note and our handwriting feature is totally accessible with VoiceOver which is beyond cool for us. Now, that pretty much covers all of our tools and these tools can be really handy but wouldn't it be great if they could be hidden when they're not needed? Well, it is our lucky day because we just so happen to have a hide toolbar button and we can just right swipe one more time to find it. We'll just right swipe here,

VoiceOver: Hide toolbar. Double tap to hide the editing toolbar.

Douglas: All right, of course, here's our hide tool bar button and just like we said, double tapping our hide toolbar button will hide all of our tools here. And of course, when we double tap, our hide toolbar will turn into a show toolbar button. You guessed it, we would just double tap to show our toolbar again. Our hide toolbar button is at the top right hand corner of our keyboard and if we were to continue to right swipe from here, we will actually begin swiping through our on-screen keyboard and we don't wanna do that So how about we go ahead and type here in our new note. Now, we could left swipe back through all of our tools here to get back to our note's text field, but it's a lot faster if we just touch in the top half of our screen here instead. So we'll just touch here.

Douglas: All right, and here we are, back in our text field. Let's begin with something simple like, how about we start a a grocery list. Now, it's good to know that the first line we type will actually be our notes title back in our notes list. Let's just type the words grocery list here in our first line. Let's go ahead and do it, We'll type the grocery list here.

VoiceOver: Cap F, Fox, cap G, cap G, R, R, O, O, G, F, C, C, D, E, E, R, R, Y, Y, space, space, grocery. J, K, L, L, K, J, I, I, S, S, G, T, T, space, space, lists.

Douglas: Great, and here we have grocery lists. We'll go ahead and double tap our return key so that the words grocery list is all that is in our first line here. We'll just go ahead and touch our Return button here.

VoiceOver: Delete, return.

Douglas: Yeah, and we'll just double tap here,

VoiceOver: New line.

Douglas: Great, and we're on a new line and we're ready to type the rest of our grocery list but for the sake of time, we will just stop right here. Now it's good to know that we can always come back to our note and add to it later. Since it's the last note that we've created, it will show up at the very top of our notes list.
