iPhone/iPad VoiceOver: Control Center

Douglas: Hello, my name is Douglas Walker. Today we're gonna be checking out how to get to our control center. And our control center gives us a really quick way to get to a lot of our most frequently used settings and apps. So let's jump right in and check it all out.

Of course, we'll first need to open our control center before we can get started. So if we have an iPhone without a home button we will need to use our single finger drag down gesture. And once we feel that first vibration and hear that little audio cue, we just lift our finger.

Otherwise, if we have a home button we'll just touch our status bar and then we'll perform our three finger swipe up. So let's go ahead and open our control center.

Douglas: Great. Our control center is open and we've been placed on our airplane mode button in the top left corner of our control center here. Now it's really great that our voiceover hints tell us exactly how to interact with each of our control center elements here.

And we heard voiceover announce a couple of things. We were told that we have actions available to us and this means that we have the ability to swipe up or down and cycle through even more settings if we like which is really handy. Voiceover also told us that we could double tap to toggle our setting here. And this is great because if we need to quickly place our device in airplane mode we'll just double tap to turn it on.

So we can already see what a huge time saver our control center will be for us. Okay, so today is all about how to get to our control center and the types of items that we'll find here.

So in our control center we'll find buttons for quickly turning on and off things like our airplane mode, our cellular data, our WiFi and Bluetooth.

We'll find our lock rotation button if we want to keep our device locked in portrait mode. We have our screen mirroring button for air playing our device to maybe an Apple TV.

We have our focus or do not disturb button here. A simple music interface, our brightness and volume controls. And we've also been given the ability to open apps like our flashlight, timer, calculator, and camera. We can even begin a screen recording from here if we like.

Now all we have to do to move through the items in our control center is just begin right and left swiping. And how cool is that?

Now it's good to know that we have a lot of control over the items that appear here in our control center and we can add or even remove items so that our control center will work just right for us. Now we just so happen to have a resource called adding control center items just below this workshop.
