If you don't already know how to read these strong groupsigns, we recommend first completing Hadley's Reading Workshop Contracted Braille Workshop Seven, More Strong Groupsigns: a-r, e-d, o-w, e-r, g-h, i-n-g.

Begin by putting paper in your writing device using whichever writing device you have available.

Now let's look at another set of strong groupsigns you know. Turn to page 39 in the workbook. At the top of the page, read the strong groupsigns: a-r, e-d, e-r, g-h, o-w, i-n-g.

You can practice writing these groupsigns in sentences. These un-contracted sentences can be found on pages 40 and 41 of the workbook for reference.

You may notice that some of these sentences are a little bit longer and you may have to pause the audio more often to write.

To begin, start on a new line and indent two spaces.

Write this sentence:

Old pals Aarav, comma, Jared, comma, Sheri, comma, and Maria decided to start a book club, semicolon, the book is Educated, comma, by Tara Westover.

Next, braille:

Aarav started the dialogue, comma, opening quotation mark, Now that we have reviewed it, comma, let's ponder and decide if we will choose Educated for December, closing quotation mark.

Now write:

Opening quotation mark, It might be too sad to complete, closing quotation mark, Sheri stated,

opening quotation mark, I don't want to start it, comma, only to want to quit midway, closing quotation mark.

Try writing:

Jared added, comma, opening quotation mark, Don't lose sight of the fact that Ms. Westover has won awards for her writing, closing quotation mark.

Write:

Opening quotation mark, The book actually debuted on top of the best seller list for New York, exclamation mark, closing quotation mark.

Now try:

Opening quotation mark, People call her an essayist, comma, historian, comma, and memoirist, closing quotation mark.

Next braille:

Opening quotation mark, It's a pretty impressive list of titles, comma, if you ask me, closing quotation mark, Maria persuaded.

And now write the sentence:

Opening quotation mark, I propose that we look at the book and not the author, closing quotation, Aarav stated.

Now braille:

Opening quotation mark, Do you want to learn how her life unfolded, question mark, I sure do exclamation mark, closing quotation mark.

Next, try writing:

Sheri uttered what she wanted to say, comma, but her fear kept her from saying until now.

Now braille:

Opening quotation mark, I can be brave and try the book, comma, if you are tolerant with me if I decide I need to stop, closing quotation mark, Sheri whispered.

And try the sentence:

Opening quotation mark, Wow, exclamation mark, closing quotation mark, Maria exclaimed, comma, opening quotation mark, That is very heroic of you comma, Sheri, closing quotation mark.

Next, write:

Opening quotation mark, I hear the bravery of that choice, closing quotation mark.

Now braille:

Aarav told the group, comma, opening quotation mark, Well, comma, I guess it's unanimous, closing quotation mark.

Finally, braille:

Opening quotation mark, We will laugh and cry unitedly as we study Educated, comma, by Tara Westover, closing quotation mark, Jared summarized.
