iPhone/iPad VoiceOver: The App Store

Hello, my name is Douglas Walker. Today, we will learn how to search for and download an app from the App Store. Probably one of the most exciting things about our Apple device is the amazing number of apps that we can download from the App Store. We can find apps related to just about everything from reading to music. Of course, social networking, and even cooking. There really is an app for just about everything. So let's jump right in and of course check it all out.

Now our App Store app just so happens to be open, and we are right in our Search tab. And we'll find our Search field just below our Search heading here. So let's go ahead and just touch in our Search field here. And of course, we'll begin our search.

VoiceOver: Games, Apps, Stories, and More. Search field, double tap to edit.

Douglas: All right, we heard VoiceOver announce that we need to double tap to enter our Edit field here. So we'll go ahead and just double tap.

VoiceOver: Search field is editing Games, Apps, Stories, and More. Character mode insertion point at start.

Douglas: Great, and we have been given our onscreen keyboard here in the bottom of our screen here. So when we are ready to begin typing our key words for our search. Of course, we could be performing a search for just about anything, but today we are going to be searching for an app called Triode. Now, I think that's the correct pronunciation of that. But anyway, this is supposed to be a super accessible internet radio app. So in our Edit field here, we will just type the word Triode here. And so we'll go ahead and just type.

VoiceOver: Cap R, cap T, cap T. R-R-U-I-I-O-O-F-D-D-D-E-E, Space, Space, Triode.

Douglas: Great, our keyword is now in our search field, so we'll go ahead and just touch our search button in the bottom right corner of our onscreen keyboard here. So we'll go ahead and just touch.

VoiceOver: Search.

Douglas: Yeah, and here it is. So we will go ahead and just double tap here.

VoiceOver: Triode, search field. Double tap to edit.

Douglas: Great, and we have performed our search, and we've been placed right back in our Search Edit field. And we could just begin right swiping here through all of our search results. Now, it's good to know that Apple typically places an advertised app here at the very top of our search results. And this is usually the same kind of app that we're searching for, so we'll kind of have to swipe past it before we find the app that we actually searched for here. So let's go ahead and do it. We'll just right swipe from here. And we're looking for our Triode app if you like. So we'll go ahead and right swipe.

VoiceOver: Cancel button.

Douglas: Here's our Cancel button. Of course, we're canceling our search here. So we'll just right swipe.

VoiceOver: Advertisement, Simple Radio. Live AM-FM app, music, sports and news stations. Four and a half stars.

Douglas: Yeah, and of course here's our advertisement that we talked about earlier, and we don't want this. We're going to right swipe from here.

VoiceOver: Get In-App Purchases button.

Douglas: And this is so we can get this app we just heard, but we don't want that. So we're going to right swipe again.

VoiceOver: Triode, internet radio, listen everywhere. Four and a quarter stars, 70 ratings button.

Douglas: And we were given some great information. Of course, we were told the title of our app here, and we were told the rating of our app, and of course how many people have reviewed the app. Now we could double tap to get even more of a description if we like, and we'd also be able to read through all of our app reviews which is really great. But we already know that we want to get this app, so we'll go ahead and just right swipe to do just that. So we'll go ahead and right swipe here.

VoiceOver: Get In-App Purchases button.

Douglas: All right, here we find a Get button, and we are told that there are in-app purchases which means that we can download this app for free. However, we might have to pay a little extra to purchase some of the more advanced features later on if we like. Now, if there's an upfront cost for actually purchasing the app, we would be told that here as well. And most apps will only cost a couple of dollars for us so. Okay, we know that we want to get this app. So all we would do is just double tap, and we would confirm our purchase with either our face or our Touch ID. And our app of course would be downloaded right to our device. And there you go.
