To begin, make sure you have your braille workbook with you.

If you don’t already have one, call Hadley at 847-784-2816, and we’ll mail one right out to you.

Let’s learn some more dot 5 contractions.

These dot 5 initial letter contractions stand for the words “lord,” “know,” and “young.”

Above the middle line you’ll find three rows of words.

Let’s read the first row.

This is the word “lord.”

Now, let’s read the second row.

This is the word “know.”

And finally, let’s read the word in the last row.

This is the word “young.”

Below the middle line you’ll find a row with three words.

Let’s read these words together: “lord, know, young.”

Finally, read the last sentence.

This sentence, “Do you know that the maiden is quite young?” has the words “know” and “young.”

Read sentences 1 and 2 and find which one is brailled correctly.

If you said sentence 1 is correct, you’re right!

This sentence says, “The lawyer will question her right away.”

Sentence 2 has a dot 5 followed by the letter q, but the rest of the word “question” should not be spelled out.

Now, read sentences 3 and 4 and find which one is brailled correctly.

In this pair, sentence 3 uses a dot 5 contraction correctly.

It reads, “The young pup will know how to sit.”

Now, move to sentences 5 and 6. Which one is brailled correctly?

This time, sentence 6 is correct because it uses the dot 5 contraction “mother” correctly.

It says, “Shall I ask my mother to ask my father if he will let me borrow the car?”

Finally, check out the sentences numbered 7 and 8. Which one is correct?

Sentence 8 is brailled correctly.

Here, the dot 5 words “lord” and “work” are used correctly.

It says, “The lord will ride his chariot to work.”

The dot 5 word “know” is in the longer word “unknown.”

What about the third sentence? Which dot 5 words are in this one?

The word “mother” is used as part of the word “grandmother,” and the word “young” is next to the period.

Finally, read the last sentence, and look for dot 5 contractions.

Here, the dot 5 contraction for “right” is used next to the hyphen.

Continue down the page to find four more rows of braille, each containing three words.

Read the first row and pick the word that’s brailled correctly for “smother.”

The last word is correct.

On the next row, which word shows “righteous” brailled correctly?

It’s the middle word.

In the third row, find the correct way to braille “fatherly.”

This time, it’s the last word.
